- an aquatic or terrestrial annelid worm with suckers at both ends. Many species are bloodsucking parasites, especially of vertebrates, and others are predators.
- a person who extorts profit from or sponges on others."they are leeches feeding off the hardworking majority"
Its is good to be nice and render help to people around you including your family but remember we all have our limit. Know your limit. Like the leech some people will suck the life out of you and still say hateful things about you.
Don't be afraid to say 'No, you cant come and stay with me' or ' I cant help you at the moment'.
Render your help or assistance from a far you don't have to accommodate the needy in your space because as humans that they are they can turn against you. You don't know their agender for coming into your home so please apply wisdom and extreme caution.
In Lagos these days with the rise in expenses level, no one should come and live with you without contributing to the livelihood of the home. Even Grandmothers are helping with the children by saving you the cost of a nanny or creche. Cousins/nieces on long holidays are good babysitters theses days. Lol!
If you must stay then you must be useful. Do not allow anyone to turn your home to a free hotel with free food and free power and access to cable TV and other comfort amenities.
In short don't come and stay. Lol!
Be wise, be smart with your kindness.
